Don't Knit Angry!

Nothing like utter frustration to get ya going on knitting. I don't know about you all, but when I am MAD, I get very quiet, and focused. Last night, I knit angry. It was satisfying in that it did help calm me, the quiet repetition of stockinette in the round neatly dispensing my anger stitch by stitch. This, my friends, is how I finished the Ipod cozy, albeit in an entirely different gauge (lol...angry knitting is tense knitting). It's in cotton, and to be honest, it was a mess to begin with. Done in a pattern I "made up on the fly," I started with a Turkish Cast On, made a buttonhole immediately (for the connection cord) and then began working in the round. I quickly discovered I'd made it too big, so I put in random decreases to get it down to size. I started this project in January, and in the last six months: my gauge has changed; I now despise the needles I started the project with (aluminum circs); and I've decided that when I'm casting off, I really need to take the time to find a crochet hook. (I used to be a crocheter, for YEARS!) Nothing makes a bind off fly off the needles like a crochet hook. The good news is that I think I've found my stretchy toe up bind-off of choice! Wendy uses this bind off (don't know if she "invented" it or not, but that's where I found it). Love the BO, hate the cozy. It keeps "Cuthbert" safe, so I'm happy for the time being. I still need to weave in the ends, and put a 'clasp' and button on it. I'll take pictures when it's all done.

Progress? Not so much.

I did sleep with yarn the other night...does that count? Or does that push me over some sort of 'line'? Since I don't have another person in my bed anymore (which is a good thing...more room for yarn, as it turns out), I generally knit before going to sleep. Often, the balls of yarn, and the WIP end up laying on the bed next to me while I sleep. I tuck them up by the headboard and all is well. The other night, a ball got frisky and I woke up laying ON it. Thankfully, I didn't strangle myself. :P

Oh...Yarn News! I got yarn for my birthday!! w0oh00!! My aunt bought me all the yarn I need to make a Ribby Cardi! Yay!!! It's going to be Scarlet and Gray, cuz I live in Ohio...and *bleed* scarlet and gray, OK?!


P.S. I'm just kidding about the yarn being better in bed. It's just my attempt at humor. Clearly, celibacy drives you insane.

Jumping on the bandwagon.

Ok. You've seen my finished objects. Y'all know I can knit me a dishrag. If you don't know, you can ask my neighbor. She has at least 5 or 6 that I've knit for her. (And someday, she will find that cone of peaches and cream yarn hiding in her basement that she promised to give me...)

It's a race, except it's the best kind of race! You get to sit on your duff and knit! There are teams (assigned by the admin) and each team starts with a box with a dishrag, two skeins of cotton and a small treat. When you get your box, you empty it. Marvel at the loveliness (or fugliness) of your new dishrag. Knit a dishrag from one of the cotton skeins in the box. Eat your chocolate (you know that's what the treat better be). Place the rag you knitted into a box with the two skeins of cotton you purchased for the event, and the treat (don't forget the treat!), and pass the "baton" to the next knitter in line on your team! The first team to return their box to the admin wins!

Now, I'm not sure what she's going to do with 10-20 dishrags when they show up to her house... :P

If you're interested, you better hurry! They are capping it at 200 participants and when I just checked, it's at 119!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood....

It's so nice out, and I'm so bored at work, that I decided to go outside and take a photo of my current socks in progress.

This is my first toe up pair (well, they were when I started them...). These are the "gorilla socks", except now they fit me! Well, they do when the needles don't make them all wonky, and you don't have your feet (which are tied together, go go magic loop) propped up on the door of your car, while in the parking lot at work, while you pray that someone doesn't walk by and take a picture of you being a freak, so that they can put it on THEIR blog. /breathe.

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure everyone around here knows that I'm a freak already. :P

Socks in action! They don't slide down over his heel, even in shoes. They also didn't morph into swim fins after being worn without shoes all day! YAY!!!

Oh...and for those of you wondering, here's the "sock interview" with Mr. Boy Foot:

Me: I'm curious if I made the heel flap too long, (I know they are too short ankle wise) curious about the girth, did they go over your ankle nicely?
MBF: Perfect fit, aye a little short in the ankle, but it doesn't stop them being comfy, and I'm not going to wear boots over them, etc. I don't imagine.

Me: Too loose?
MBF: Nope, don't feel loose at all really.

Me: Roomy enough in the toe?
MBF: Plenty.

Me: Long enough??? [in the foot]
MBF: Yup, not tight at all.

Me: Some of the photos look like you're curling your toes.
MBF: That was me trying to make a smiley face with my feet, I think.

All Baby Socks, All The Time....

Did I finish them? Of course I did!



Do they fit the baby? Of course they don't! In another of my long line of screw-ups, they don't even come close to fitting the baby. I did manage to cram them onto her feet for a photo (on my sister's camera, I'm afraid).

I asked Mommy if I could have a "do-over" and took the socks home with me...head hung in shame.

P.S. Mr. Boy Sock reports that there has not been a sock spotting as of yet. He suggests that maybe they blew up the package, thinking it was some sort of threat. Personally, I think he should check the postal person's feet next time around....

Baby Sock, ad nauseum....

So, those of you with a keen eye will have noticed that those two sock toes yesterday did NOT look the same. They weren't. I was so intent on making my increases properly, that I didn't alternate increase rows and plain rows. *Sigh* Frog pond on that...LOL. Good news...I cast right back on for that second sock, and got all the way through the heel last night. I probably would have finished the whole thing, but Braveheart came on, and I just had to turn it off and do something else before they killed his wife. (Yes, I'm a sap...so sue me.)
